Half-centuries by Shubhman Gill and Karun Nair powered India A to 233 for 3 on the opening day of second unofficial Test against South Africa, in Mysore, on Tuesday.
Put into bat, the hosts lost the wickets of Abhimanyu Easwaran and Priyank Panchal early in the morning session, with Lungi Ngidi trapping the former legbefore while Wiaan Mulder accounting for the wicket of the latter.
However, Nair and Gill resurrected India A’s innings with a 135-run stand for the third wicket, before Gill fell to Lutho Sipamla, eight short of a century. His breezy knock included 12 boundaries and a six.
Nair, however, continued his good run of form and stroked another fifty. He added another 67 runs in an unbroken partnership with Wriddhiman Saha and reached 78 before stumps were taken.
Only 74 overs of play was possible on the opening day.
